The Ice Breaker!!!

Budha dazed and confused, I had the sense to take a pic:) my claim to fame... ya me did it!

Budha and me went to the Wharton State forest on Feb 9th and man was it fun -- more thrills and spills than I bargained for. It snowed on Friday and by Sunday much of it was melting, whatever we decided to take the chance. To cut a long story short, we arrived at the Wharton state forest late -- at 4pm and the sun was to set in an hour or so.

The trail looked really harmless and we drove for 1/2 a mile and stopped for a smoke, then I took over the wheels and drove for another 1/4 mile then suddenly we sink in a pond -- the feeling is amazing, you just hear a thud, plop and sink in a few feet. It was pretty bad as I was driving fast and all the 4 wheels are in the pond and water is up to wheel level. We try some antics to get it out, without any success...

We walk back to the highway and hitch-hike, land up in the gas station and wait for Devin. Our savior has a '82 Ford F250 and it is one heavy beast. It is 5:30pm and is pretty dark, and he gets into the trail. This is when the fun begins! He gets stuck in another pond -- the one that we managed to cross! So our pal calls his pals to rescue him. Another 3 trucks pop up in minutes. One of them is a Ford F250, a grand Cherokee and some other monster thingie. The F250 pulls Devin's truck out and the grand Cherokee carefully navigates across the pond to reach our truck, it is 7pm and totally dark.

Buddha has his pants frozen, there inside our jeep and Buddha's $500 camera is screwed. Devin's pal somehow manages to hook us up (doh Budhman's jeep didn't have a  tow hook) and we get out. The story does not end there! On our way back, we get stuck again -- a second time! But this was a small one and we get out easily.

This was the craziest thing I've done since a loooong time! We met some really kewl ppl, there were kids, grandpas, girlfriends, champagne and what not! Amazing fun if you screwup I guess! And it set us back $50... cheap thrills and lotsa spills!

Day ends by locking myself out of my place, eating at a diner and crashing at Buddha's place:)

Audio Altima

I own a '93 Altima and recently I bought a Pioneer DEH-1400 CD player, wiring it was a real nightmare since all Nissans before 1995 don't follow the EIA color codes.

So here is the complete "How to wire a CD player/radio/audio into a 1993 Nissan Altima" with many useful information gleaned from the net all in one place!

To learn how to remove the head unit, click here. This site has some comprehensive information on Altimas, unfortunately it does not have any on Altimas before 1995.
The above picture was ripped off Install Doctor.
There was also a major discussion on some newsgroup, you can find that one Google here.

What you should have:

Get a wiring harness, I ordered the Scosche wiring harness for Nissan Altima prior to 1994 (don't get the 1995 kit, it will not fit). This is not commonly found and you may have to order this from Etronics or Sound Domain.
Get the antenna adapter, this should be fairly common and I purchased this off Walmart.

As noted in the above diagram, do not connect the B, D and P wires, in fact you must tape it and make sure it will not cause a short circuit.

Also, you might notice that there is no ground wire from the connector! This is not a problem, since when you screw the receiver to into the dash, the ground will be setup. However, make sure the receiver you have has the ground wired it the metal box, the Pioneer comes like this, so you would normally test only after fixing at least one screw.

One annoying thing '93 Altima is that the antenna goes up when the ignition is switched on. The H wire is supposed to control this, however I had no luck, if you have any information on this please mail me.

That's it! happy rocking...
